Honoring Carla Haskell: A Champion for Historic Ellsworth
This National Women’s Month, we celebrate Carla Haskell, a visionary leader, accomplished architect, and tireless advocate for historic preservation in Downtown Ellsworth. For over 20 years, Carla has dedicated her expertise, energy, and passion to preserving the city's historic charm—ensuring its past remains part of its future.
As the co-founder of Design Group Collaborative (DGC), Carla has built more than just a thriving architectural firm in downtown Ellsworth; she has built a legacy of saving places that matter. Her impact is evident throughout the downtown—from assisting in The Grand Theater’s listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012 and design of the marquee rehabilitation to spearheading the rescue of the Old Hancock County Sheriff’s Home and Jail in 2022. Leading a group of dedicated volunteers, she helped protect this historic structure from demolition.
Now, Carla is at the forefront of yet another milestone—supporting the nomination of Downtown Ellsworth on the National Register as a Historic District. Through her expertise and leadership, she continues championing projects that preserve history, strengthen the community, and create spaces for future generations.
Beyond her preservation work, Carla and DGC are deeply committed to giving back. As participants in the 1+ Pro Bono Program, the firm donates 1% or more of working hours to nonprofit projects, providing essential design services to organizations in need.
Join us in celebrating Carla Haskell, a woman of vision, action, and impact.
