Frenchman Bay Conservancy is seeking volunteers to participate in trail work. Trail work takes place on Wednesday mornings from 8:30-11:30am; during Saturday work days, two shifts are available from 9:30am-12:00pm, and 12:30pm-3:00pm. Volunteers can meet at Jordan Homestead, or carpool from Tidal Falls at 9:30am/12:30pm.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Michelle & Eric Ragan, Kim Smallidge, Adam Audette and Cassandra and Nikki of Downeast Horizons for helping water each week.
The flowers on the bridge look so lovely thanks to your time and effort!
We need a few more volunteers with a green thumb. We ask for a one-week commitment to water the Union River bridge planters and keep our Downtown in bloom!
Sundog Solar has installed photovoltaic panels on the roof of the building where Fogtown Brewing Company operates. This is a 17.4 kW system consisting of 57 panels. When they go online, they will cover 72.49% of Fogtown's electric energy needs!
With help from City of Ellsworth Economic Development and Heart of Ellsworth, Fogtown applied for and was awarded a USDA REAP grant to offset some of the cost of these panels. Congratulations!
Thank you to the nearly 300 community members who took time to complete our survey and all the volunteers who got the word out! We are compiling the results and will have a report to share with you next month.
This project is a partnership between building owners Bill Sanborn + John Hutchins, Heart of Ellsworth and made possible by a generous grant from The Maine Community Foundation's Downeast Innovation Fund.
Heart of Ellsworth Awarded
Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Funding
Heart of Ellsworth is proud to have been recognized by the Maine Community Foundation as a recipient of The Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund which was established in 2007 by an anonymous donor. The goal of the fund is to support projects and organizations that promote traditional handcrafts throughout Maine. Ellsworth will be partnering with the Maine Crafts Association during Maine Craft Weekend. Program details will be released in early September!
OCTOBER 5 & 6
Meet the Heart of Ellsworth Board of Directors!
Treasurer, Derek Jones
Derek grew up in the ‘burbs of Bangor, primarily Hampden, with a small dose of Flagstaff Lake. A University of Maine and Maine Law grad, he never let schooling interfere with his education. He is a man of diverse interests. He loves golf, but is a lousy golfer. He loves cheesecake, but is lactose intolerant. For fun, he teaches at the UMaine Business School and writes boring articles in tax journals. Derek is also a Dedimus Justice, so if you need to be sworn into office, give him a call. “I joined the board because I want to help downtown Ellsworth reach its true potential as a vibrant community that draws people in to live, work and raise a family like so many other coastal towns have done.”

Heart of Ellsworth remains focused and committed to economic growth through projects in the urban core.
Our vision seeks to fill storefronts on Main Street, secure a location for the Winter Farmers Market, develop the Union River waterfront with green space along the river, and identify and assist in the creation of more downtown housing options. Collectively, these enhance opportunities for both visitors and community members to enjoy all that Ellsworth has to offer.
Your contribution ensures that we can remain committed to these goals. We appreciate your support!
