Greenway and the City of Ellsworth receive
Planning Partnership Initiate (PPI) Grant!
Greenway and the City of Ellsworth just received a Planning Partnership Initiate (PPI) grant to study a rail with trail project that would connect the Ellsworth Rail Trail to the current terminus of the Downeast Sunrise Trail. After meetings the City of Ellsworth had with Maine's Dept. of Transportation Commissioner, the route right by Maine Community Foundation received support for planning to close the .7 mile gap between the Ellsworth Rail Trail and the Down East Sunrise Trail. This is one of the priority corridors being put forward to DOT currently to develop the Greenway through Maine.
As we wish Joshua Campbell Torrance the best at Bennington Museum in VT and thank him for all he did for our community, we are excited to support Phyllis Young (President, Heart of Ellsworth) in her new role as interim executive director at Woodlawn. Thank you, Phyllis, for being such a pillar of our community! Visit Woodlawn's website for details.
Meet Heart of Ellsworth Board Beth Fendl, Past President!
Beth currently lives and works in downtown Ellsworth. In 1992, she and her sister opened The Riverside Cafe on the corner of Main and State Street. After selling the business in 2006 and taking some time at home with her growing family, Beth became the general manager of Finn's Irish Pub in 2011. As president of the Downtown Merchants Association Beth ushered the organization from a 501c6 organization to become Heart of Ellsworth - a 501c3 in July of 2017. Today, as past president, Beth works tirelessly highlighting our historic downtown, beautiful waterfront, and culturally rich Main Street. With the goal of making downtown Ellsworth a vibrant and authentic Main Street destination, Beth looks forward to the future of Heart of Ellsworth as she assists the organization in becoming a Main Street Maine community.
Heart of Ellsworth awarded $10,000 Downeast Innovation grant through the Maine Community Foundation!
The Downeast Innovation fund will support marketing efforts and provide Heart of Ellsworth an opportunity to tell downtown’s story through a historical lens, connecting the Main Street of today to Ellsworth’s rich historical past. This work will encourage community collaboration and provide a platform to support a “sense of place” narrative for Main Street entrepreneurs with a focused effort to attract new businesses to Main Street; encourage others to return to downtown to be a part of the unified success that benefits all enterprises in the Main Street district.
Heart of Ellsworth invites downtown businesses to send news to cara@heartofellsworth.org so we can assist with spreading the word.

Why donate to the Heart of Ellsworth?
Heart of Ellsworth remains focused and committed to economic growth through projects in the urban core.
Our vision seeks to fill storefronts on Main Street, secure a location for the Winter Farmers Market, develop the Union River waterfront with green space along the river, and identify and assist in the creation of more downtown housing options. Collectively, these enhance opportunities for both visitors and community members to enjoy all that Ellsworth has to offer.
Your contribution ensures that we can remain committed to these goals. We appreciate your support!
