Meet Heart of Ellsworth Board Member- at-Large!
Nate Hanson
As the owner of Pinniped Kayak, Nate spends most of his time teaching and paddling on the waters surrounding Acadia National Park in Downeast Maine, though the sport of sea kayaking has also brought him around the globe to the coasts of Chile, Croatia, Scotland and more. He grew up in Belmont, MA. "Casey and I met at Swarthmore College outside Philadelphia, and I went to MIT and The Furniture Institute after college. We moved to Ellsworth in 2006 when our second kid was born, because we wanted our kids to grow up in the woods and on the water. Casey’s job allowed us to live pretty much anywhere, and the Downeast coast was our ideal spot. We didn’t know much about Ellsworth at the time, and it turned out to be a perfect fit, with its supportive schools, nice downtown, and access to the outdoors. Now the thing we love most about Ellsworth is all of our close friends and their kids; the excellent restaurants that downtown Ellsworth has to offer; and the central location for family access to excellent paddling, hiking, and sailing destinations (MDI, Deer Isle, Downeast coast, etc.). The location has been perfect for my business as well, as I can take students on a short drive in any direction and find challenges suitable for all interests and ability levels. It’s a real paddlesports mecca. I joined the Heart of Ellsworth board because I am excited about protecting and increasing the characteristics of Ellsworth that have made it such a great home for our family. Downtown events, great food, strong schools, and ever more access to the outdoors."

Why donate to the Heart of Ellsworth?
Heart of Ellsworth remains focused and committed to economic growth through projects in the urban core.
Our vision seeks to fill storefronts on Main Street, secure a location for the Winter Farmers Market, develop the Union River waterfront with green space along the river, and identify and assist in the creation of more downtown housing options. Collectively, these enhance opportunities for both visitors and community members to enjoy all that Ellsworth has to offer.
Your contribution ensures that we can remain committed to these goals. We appreciate your support!
